Panoptic Package
The Panoptic Package is Fera's fully flexible, fully customisable animal health monitoring partnership. We take a whole-facility view — identifying gaps, designing your programme, and supporting you at every stage from implementation to result interpretation.

Why choose Panoptic
The Panoptic Package isn't a product — it's a partnership. You get direct access to our scientists, a programme built around your needs, and the confidence that comes from working with one of the UK's most experienced animal health monitoring teams.
Onsite assessments
We visit your facility, assess your current programme, and identify vulnerabilities before they become problems.
Full control over test design
Your choice of organisms, methods, and screening strategy. We advise; you decide.
Expert result interpretation
Expert result interpretation
Fully bespoke service
No fixed packages, no hidden costs. The programme fits your facility, your species, and your budget.
Direct scientist access
Your questions go straight to the people running your tests — not a call centre.
Advanced testing technologies
TaqMan Real-Time PCR, MALDI-ToF, Volumetric Absorptive Microsampling (VAMs), and serology — applied where they deliver the most accurate results.
Fast turnaround
Standard results when you need them. Urgent analysis available in 24 hours.
Secure online reporting
State-of-the-art online portal for accessing and managing your results.
From programme design to results interpretation — we're with you at every stage.
1.
Choose your programme
Traditional sentinel screening, environmental surveillance, or a 3Rs-aligned molecular approach. We'll help you decide what's right for your facility.
2.
Choose your panels
Select from our range of species panels, or work with us to build a bespoke panel at no extra cost. No hidden charges for additional agents.
3.
Implement with support
Our microbiologists guide you through setup, sampling, and submission. Results come with full expert interpretation and recommended next steps.
Choose your programme
Traditional programme
Culled dirty bedding sentinels screened by established methods. Covers the full FELASA-recommended organism list including bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Includes necropsy, fungal culture, histopathology, and MALDI-ToF bacterial identification where required. The most comprehensive option for facilities running sentinel-based programmes.

Environmental programme
A sentinel-free approach using exhaust air filters, cage swabs, plenums, mite traps, water monitoring, cell lines, and biologics. Non-invasive, closed-system surveillance using Real-Time PCR. Use it alongside your existing programme or replace sentinels entirely.

3Rs programme
Live dirty bedding sentinels and random colony cages screened by Real-Time PCR and serology. Reduces sentinel numbers, increases sample representation per colony, and detects organisms not reliably transmitted to sentinels. Includes VAMs blood sampling. Ideal for immunocompromised colonies.

]Animal welfare is at the front of our science
Good science and good animal welfare go hand in hand. Our molecular and environmental screening options are designed to reduce or remove sentinel requirements — either through direct colony screening, environmental sampling, or a combined approach that gradually transitions your facility away from traditional methods.
Consultancy that goes beyond testing
Effective health monitoring is about more than running the right assays. Facility managers and Named Veterinary Surgeons face an increasingly complex environment — interpreting guidelines, understanding transmission risks, managing contamination events, and making sense of results from multiple sources. We can support you across all of it.
