Rosario is a senior scientist in the Food Authenticity and Profiling team at Fera Science Ltd. She holds a PhD in biology and worked in biomedical research for 20 years before joining Fera in 2010.

Rosario's current research interests include the development of rapid microbial diagnostics for the agri-food sector and the application of mass spectrometry, in particular proteomic approaches, to food authenticity and safety issues. Recent work involves the development of molecular biology assays for the rapid detection of foodborne pathogens, proteomic approaches for meat speciation, and participation in an inter-laboratory trial to assess the performance of quantitative methods for allergens in food.

Rosario is currently leading on the government funded work in collaboration with microbiologists at Fera and with industry partners to develop rapid molecular methods for detection of meat-borne pathogens. She has recently completed work for Defra on the use of mass spectrometry for meat speciation in highly process foodstuffs. Within the team we have expertise to conduct profiling of chemical and biochemical molecules in food, feed and other sample types using a range of technologies including NMR, liquid / gas chromatography mass spectrometry and stable-isotope mass spectrometry.
