Larissa has worked across a broad variety of entomological topics. She manages a team of 14 entomologists delivering insect identification and advice to Defra on Plant Health; monitoring for agricultural and horticultural insect pests for several commercial customers; monitoring for mites in feed and food premises; research into mite biology to improve monitoring and control; and research on the development of novel insect control methods (both native and invasive species). Larissa is currently the secretary of the British Crop Production Council Pests and Beneficials Working Group and a member of the Insecticide Resistance Action Group. She is also a member of the Royal Entomological Society Outreach and Development Group.
Larissa manages insect monitoring programmes and research projects on insect vectoring of viral and bacterial plant pathogens for several commercial and government customers. The results are used to improve decision-making tools to improve crop quality and yield. She has worked on numerous projects such as: aphid transmission of potato and carrot viruses; investigating the biology, distribution and disease vectoring potential of carrot psyllids in the UK; writing Pest Risk Assessments for potential invasive insect species; development of a multi-species lure for insect pests in food and feed storage and production premises; pests and pest population studies in grain stores; and development of a rapid in-field test for peach-potato aphid. Larissa has authored or co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed papers and articles.
