Infection can lead to up to 100% mushroom crop loss. Mixing methods and the break up of compost can spread a small infection through large volumes of compost rapidly.
As large scale compost production and mixing operations continue to grow in popularity, due to the cost time savings of such large scale production methods, the risk of T. aggressivum spreading is increased.
Trichoderma aggressivum produces mycelia that are indistinguishable from Agaricus during spawn run so it is difficult to distinguish in the early stages of infection.
When sending plant pathogens and invertebrate samples from outside England and Wales for testing please email the Crop health team (firstname.lastname@example.org) who will issue you with the relevant Letter of Authority to ensure your samples are not delayed upon entry to the UK.
