Seed is a potential source of infection for other crops propagated by seed such as tomato and pepper.
This viroid does not just affect potatoes as the name may suggest. Plants such as aubergine, tomato, avocado and sweet potato can be equally affected.
Seed will be tested by a TaqMan assay that detects both Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) and the very closely related Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid (TCDVd). If the sample was positive, and identification of the viroid was requested, PCR and sequencing would be required to identify if PSTVd or TCDVd was present. There would be an additional charge for this testing.
We can also test the plant material for Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid as well for £170 + VAT.
When submitting your sample please follow the guidelines outlined within our sample shipping information.
The relevant signed sample submission form must be included (in a separate bag if sample is damp); failure to send a sample submission form may result in a delay of your sample being tested and make diagnosis more difficult. To help us process your samples in the most efficient way please fill in as much information as possible on the relevant form below. Please ensure you provide your email address, 'Your Ref', 'Purchase order no' and 'Name and Address for Invoice' in the sections where applicable.
