  1. Standard growing on test for virus in Potato
    This growing on test takes six to eight weeks where tubers are grown on in the glasshouse and subsequently tested for various PVY strains and any specific viruses as requested using ELISA.
  2. Spraing test for symptomatic tubers (Tobacco rattle virus & Potato mop top virus)

    Tests for the 2 viruses responsible for spraing, the nematode transmitted Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) and the Powdery scab transmitted Potato mop top virus (PMTV)

  3. Scab testing: powdery (Spongospora) & common (Streptomyces)
    Powdery and Common scab both are potato blemish diseases that cause unsightly scab like blemishes on the tubers which in turn result in the tubers being rejected or downgraded.
  4. Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) seed testing package (1500 seeds)

    Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) effects tomato, pepper and other solanaceous hosts. Symptoms include stunting, severe yellowing and distortion of the leaves. PSTVd is seed transmitted. 1500 seeds are tested for Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd) by real time RT-PCR (TaqMan). However, this TaqMan assay also detects Tomato chlorotic dwarf viroid (TCDVd), Mexican papita viroid (MPVd) and Tomato planta macho viroid (TPMVd).

  5. Soft rotting bacteria (Total count and Identification of Pectobacterium / Dickeya species)
    Blackleg is caused by a number of pectolytic bacteria, including Pectobacterium and Dickeya species, that have the ability to breakdown plant cell walls. It is a disease which affects all sectors of the UK potato industry.
  6. Potato wash water test - Total count of soft rotting bacteria (Pectobacterium and Dickeya spp.)
    An overall count of soft rotting bacteria in potato wash water.
  7. Tuber blemish diseases: visual assessment (% coverage)
    Our experts undertake a detailed visual assessment of your samples to report a percentage coverage of various tuber blemish diseases including: silver scurf, black scurf, skin spot, scab and black dot
  8. Identification and confirmation of pospiviroid seed positive

    Pospiviroid positives detected by real time RT-PCR (TaqMan) are tested by RT-PCR and sequencing to try to identify and confirm the pospiviroid.

  9. Gangrene Latent Test
    A latent test for gangrene, a slow growing fungal disease of stored potatoes, caused by Boeremia foveata.
  10. Pospiviroid seed testing package (1500 seeds)

    Pospiviroid positives detected by real time RT-PCR (TaqMan) are tested by RT-PCR and sequencing to try to identify and confirm the pospiviroid.
