  1. Tomato virus diagnosis screening
    Screen for a range of tomato viruses on symptomatic plant material via ELISA.
  2. Crown Gall Disease (Tumor-Inducing Plasmid) Testing
    A test for Rhizobium radiobacter (formerly known as Agrobacterium tumefaciens), which is responsible for crown gall disease in plants. The bacterium enters the plant through wounds in roots or stems and stimulates disorganised tissue growth, producing swollen galls.
  3. Tomato root mat disease (Root-inducing plasmid) testing
    A test for Tomato Root Mat Disease caused by Rhizobium rhizogenes, a gram-negative soil bacterium that contains root-inducing (Ri) plasmids which can lead to over-abundant growth of roots in tomatoes and cucumbers.
  4. Identification of Trichoderma aggressivum on compost
    Test for Trichoderma aggressivum, which can infect and colonise healthy, productive mushroom compost. It causes compost green mould in Agaricus.
  5. Standard growing on test for virus in Potato
    This growing on test takes six to eight weeks where tubers are grown on in the glasshouse and subsequently tested for various PVY strains and any specific viruses as requested using ELISA.
  6. Rapid direct tuber test for virus in Potato
    This rapid direct tuber test includes Potato virus Y (PVY) as standard.

    Further viruses are available for an additional fee. These are Potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) and potato viruses PVA, PVV and PVX.

  7. Tuber blemish diseases: visual assessment (% coverage)
    Our experts undertake a detailed visual assessment of your samples to report a percentage coverage of various tuber blemish diseases including: silver scurf, black scurf, skin spot, scab and black dot
  8. Scab testing: powdery (Spongospora) & common (Streptomyces)
    Powdery and Common scab both are potato blemish diseases that cause unsightly scab like blemishes on the tubers which in turn result in the tubers being rejected or downgraded.
  9. Gangrene Latent Test
    A latent test for gangrene, a slow growing fungal disease of stored potatoes, caused by Boeremia foveata.
  10. Soft rotting bacteria (Total count and Identification of Pectobacterium / Dickeya species)
    Blackleg is caused by a number of pectolytic bacteria, including Pectobacterium and Dickeya species, that have the ability to breakdown plant cell walls. It is a disease which affects all sectors of the UK potato industry.
  11. Potato brown rot & ring rot (Official EU Protocol) - Ralstonia solanacearum & Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus
    This test is to detect the presence of Ring Rot and Brown Rot in potato tubers.
  12. Stem Nematode Analysis
    The bulb and stem nematode (Ditylenchus dipsaci) is a particularly destructive plant pathogenic nematode, affecting over 450 plant species.
